What is AKEEGA® (niraparib and abiraterone acetate)?

AKEEGA® is a combination treatment used with prednisone for adults who have:
  • A BRCA gene mutation AND
  • Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer
AKEEGA® is the only FDA-approved treatment for BRCA-positive mCRPC that combines two different medicines in one tablet.
What does metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) mean?

The prostate cancer has spread to other parts of the body and stops responding to pharmacological or surgical treatment that lowers testosterone. It is possible for it to spread to bones, adrenal glands, liver, and lungs.

Metastatic:

Cancer has spread to other parts of body

Castration-resistant:

Cancer does not respond to pharmacological or surgical treatment that lowers testosterone

How does the dual action tablet work?

The two medicines work together in fighting your specific type of cancer, BRCA+ mCRPC.

How should I take AKEEGA®?

Take AKEEGA® tablets daily* on an empty stomach

*AKEEGA® is a prescription medicine used with prednisone.

Take tablets orally as a single dose once a day on an empty stomach

Do not eat food for at least 2 hours before and for at least 1 hour after taking AKEEGA®

Swallow tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew tablets

If a dose of AKEEGA® or prednisone is missed, take the dose as soon as possible on the same day and return to the normal schedule the following day

Do not take extra tablets to make up for the missed dose

How will my doctor monitor for potential side effects?

When starting any new treatment, monitoring is important. Once you begin treatment with AKEEGA® your doctor or nurse will check your blood pressure, do blood tests, and check for other signs and symptoms of side effects.
